Hij groeide op in een militair gezin en ontwikkelde al vroeg een fascinatie voor po\u00ebzie, mythologie en filosofie. Zijn leven werd gekenmerkt door artistieke vrijheid, maar ook door conflicten, alcohol en juridische problemen. In 1971 verhuisde hij naar Parijs om te schrijven en tot rust te komen. Daar overleed hij op <strong>3 juli 1971<\/strong>, slechts 27 jaar oud, waarmee hij deel werd van de beruchte \u201c27 Club\u201d.
