Zijn stem is rauw, wanhopig, soms bijna schreeuwend maar altijd eerlijk. Hij zingt alsof hij zichzelf probeert te redden, en dat maakt hem uniek. Zijn stem heeft een mix van soul, folk, punk en Ierse invloeden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Jeugd en Beginjaren<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Kevin Rowland werd geboren op <strong>17 augustus 1953<\/strong> in Wolverhampton, Engeland. Hij groeide op in een Iers\u2011katholiek gezin en verhuisde later naar Birmingham. In zijn tienerjaren raakte hij betrokken bij de punk\u2011scene en speelde hij in verschillende bands. In 1978 richtte hij Dexys Midnight Runners op, samen met Kevin \u201cAl\u201d Archer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Doorbraak (1980-1982)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dexys brak door met een unieke mix van soul, brass en punkenergie. Hij experimenteerde met folk, theatrale arrangementen en zelfs cross\u2011dressing op zijn soloplaat <em>My Beauty<\/em>. Hoewel die periode zwaar was, zowel persoonlijk als professioneel, bleef hij trouw aan zijn artistieke visie.
