Rauw, doorleefd, eerlijk en altijd met een ziel die rechtstreeks uit het diepe zuiden van de VS leek te komen. Hij bracht de blues naar Nederland op een manier die niemand anders kon: puur, intens en zonder opsmuk. Muskee was geen artiest die een rol speeld, hij <em>was<\/em> de blues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Jeugd en Beginjaren<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Harry Muskee werd geboren op <strong>10 juni 1941<\/strong> in Assen. Zijn jeugd werd getekend door de oorlog: zijn vader zat als krijgsgevangene in Duitsland en keerde pas terug toen Harry vier jaar oud was. Hij ontdekte de blues via Amerikaanse legerzenders zoals <em>The Voice of America<\/em>, waar vooral John Lee Hooker zijn grote inspiratiebron werd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In de vroege jaren zestig speelde hij in lokale bandjes zoals <strong>The Mixtures<\/strong> en <strong>The Old Fashioned Jazz Group<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Doorbraak met Cuby + Blizzards (1964-1972)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1964 richtte Muskee samen met gitarist <strong>Eelco Gelling<\/strong> de band <strong>Cuby + Blizzards<\/strong> op. In de jaren tachtig en negentig volgden meerdere revivals van Cuby + Blizzards, opnieuw met groot succes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hij bleef optreden tot op hoge leeftijd en bleef een vaste waarde in de Nederlandse muziekscene. Muskee overleed op <strong>26 september 2011<\/strong> in Rolde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Thema\u2019s en Stijl<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Harry Muskee staat voor:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>pure blues<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>rauwe emotie<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>melancholie<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>storytelling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>soulvolle zang<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Zijn stijl is een mengsel van:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chicago blues<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>rhythm &amp; blues<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>rock<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nederlandse roots<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Hij zong niet <em>over<\/em> de blues \u2014 hij leefde het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Legacy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Muskee wordt gezien als de grootste blueszanger die Nederland ooit heeft gehad. Zijn werk met Cuby + Blizzards legde de basis voor de Nederlandse bluesboom in de jaren zestig en zeventig.
