Zijn stem is warm, dramatisch en doorleefd, met een herkenbare Schotse tongval. Hij zingt alsof hij verhalen schildert: groot, emotioneel, po\u00ebtisch en vol symboliek. Als frontman van Marillion werd hij een icoon, maar zijn solowerk bewees dat zijn artistieke kracht volledig op zichzelf kon staan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Jeugd en Beginjaren<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Fish werd geboren als <strong>Derek William Dick<\/strong> in 1958 in Dalkeith, Schotland. Voor hij muzikant werd, werkte hij als tuinman, houthakker en boswachter. In zijn jeugd werd hij door vrienden \u201cFish\u201d genoemd omdat hij urenlang in bad kon liggen. In 1981 vond hij zijn plek in de muziekwereld toen hij samen met andere muzikanten <strong>Marillion<\/strong> vormde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Doorbraak met Marillion (1981\u20131988)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Fish werd het gezicht van Marillion door zijn theatrale podiumpresentatie en po\u00ebtische teksten. Hij scoorde een hit met <em>A Gentleman\u2019s Excuse Me<\/em>.
