Zijn stem was droog, laag, soms bijna gesproken, maar altijd geladen met emotie en observatie. Hij bracht po\u00ebzie, straatverhalen en rauwe eerlijkheid samen in muziek die nooit bedoeld was om iedereen te pleasen. Reed was een artiest die grenzen opzocht en ze vervolgens verlegde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zijn werk is een fundament onder alternatieve muziek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Jeugd en Beginjaren<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Lou Reed werd geboren als <strong>Lewis Allan Reed<\/strong> in 1942 in New York. Hij groeide op op Long Island en studeerde literatuur en toneel aan Syracuse University. In zijn jeugd speelde hij in verschillende bandjes en werkte hij als songwriter voor Pickwick Records, waar hij aan de lopende band popnummers schreef.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1965 richtte hij samen met John Cale, Sterling Morrison en Maureen Tucker <strong>The Velvet Underground<\/strong> op.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Doorbraak met The Velvet Underground (1965-1970)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Velvet Underground werd geen commercieel succes in hun eigen tijd, maar groeide later uit tot een van de meest invloedrijke bands ooit. Zijn album <strong>Transformer<\/strong> (1972), geproduceerd door David Bowie en Mick Ronson, werd een klassieker met hits als <em>Walk on the Wild Side<\/em> en <em>Perfect Day<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In de jaren daarna wisselde hij tussen commerci\u00eble successen, experimentele projecten en persoonlijke verhalen.
