Zijn rauwe vibrato, zijn intense voordracht en zijn bijna dierlijke energie maakten hem een frontman die je niet vergeet. Of hij nu zong met Family of later met The Shortlist, Chapman klonk altijd alsof hij elk woord voelde tot in zijn botten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hij was geen gladde rockster. Hij was een <strong>kracht<\/strong>, een <strong>persoonlijkheid<\/strong>, een <strong>stem die je raakt omdat hij nergens op lijkt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Jeugd en Beginjaren<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Roger Chapman werd geboren in 1942 in Leicester. Hij groeide op met Amerikaanse rhythm and blues, Britse beatmuziek en de opkomende rockscene. In de jaren zestig begon hij te zingen in lokale bands, maar al snel werd duidelijk dat zijn stem te bijzonder was om in de anonimiteit te blijven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1966 vormde hij samen met Charlie Whitney de band <strong>Family<\/strong>, een groep die net zo eigenzinnig was als hijzelf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Doorbraak en Klassiekers met Family (1968-1973)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Family werd een van de meest originele bands uit de Britse progressieve rock.
